The new timeline gives selected sectors additional time to prepare for the country's Halal certification requirements
The Indonesian government has extended the mandatory Halal certification deadline for selected products and services until October 2028. The requirement had initially been scheduled to take effect in October 2026.
The extension provides additional preparation time for businesses and for the national infrastructure responsible for implementing the requirements.
The sectors covered include food, beverages, slaughtered products, related services, cosmetics, health supplements, natural medicines, chemical products, genetically engineered products and selected consumer goods.
For imported food and beverages, slaughtered products and related services, mandatory Halal certification will take effect on October 18, 2028.
The new timeline reinforces the importance of regulatory preparation and Halal certification for companies operating in or seeking to expand their presence in the Indonesian market.
