Taiwan’s economic diplomacy is getting a new symbol: the halal certification seal. Despite having fewer than 500,000 Muslims, Taiwan is aiming squarely at the $3 trillion global halal market — and doing so with remarkable precision.
As part of its New Southbound Policy (NSP), Taiwan is investing in halal certification to strengthen ties with 18 high-growth economies, especially Muslim-majority nations like Indonesia and Malaysia. For these countries, halal certification is the golden ticket to consumer trust — unlocking access to over 2 billion Muslim consumers worldwide.
Beyond tourism, Taiwan is positioning itself as a trusted, high-quality partner in global halal trade by aligning its manufacturing and technological strengths with Islamic values. Hotels, restaurants, and exportable goods are being certified to meet growing halal demand.
