Malaysia’s Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM) is exploring the creation of a halal certification body in the Philippines to support local businesses in certification, training, and global market access. The initiative would benefit key industries like food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.
Still in exploratory stages, the proposal has backing from the Philippine government. Trade Secretary Cristina Roque encouraged JAKIM to implement the initiative within the year and provide marketing support for local halal products.
