A mission that has accompanied one of Brazil's leading Halal certification companies throughout its long history is addressing the insufficiency and difficulty faced by Halal consumers in the domestic market.
SIILHalal, one of Brazil's foremost Halal certification companies, has been dedicated to increasing the availability and variety of Halal products in the national market to meet the needs of the growing Muslim community in the country. "Throughout our journey, we have been monitoring this issue and making efforts to increase the quantity and variety of Halal products available in the domestic market," explains SIILHalal's CEO, Chaiboun Darwiche.
Despite the absence of official data, the executive estimates that the Muslim population in Brazil, considering the number of Muslim entities in the country, ranges from 800,000 to 1.5 million people. In addition, data from the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (CCAB, São Paulo/SP) indicates that there are between 12 and 14 million Arabs, with the majority being Syrians and Lebanese.
SIILHalal's CEO, Chaiboun Darwiche, emphasizes that from the inception of the company's operations, the vision to expand the variety of Halal products in Brazilian stores and supermarkets has always been present. "The difficulty in finding Halal products in stores or supermarkets in the domestic market motivated the founding of SIILHalal in 2008. It was a personal matter as a practicing Muslim," he recalls.
SIILHalal became a pioneer in promoting certified products for Muslim consumers, especially in the food and beverage sector, to better meet the needs of practitioners of Islam in Brazil. The goal was to provide greater and better access to Halal products, eliminating barriers.
Over the past decade, many efforts have been made to increase the availability of certified products. Today, it is possible to find products certified by SIILHalal in various retail outlets and even in major retail chains. "We find products with the SIILHalal seal in various everyday establishments and on the shelves of major retail chains in Brazil and abroad," Chaiboun Darwiche rejoices.
However, SIILHalal acknowledges that there is still much work to be done to fully meet the domestic audience of Halal product consumers. Additionally, the company is considering expansion into new markets so that Brazil can confidently enter the Halal Tourism segment. This entails attracting substantial investments from a consumer audience with distinct characteristics and high purchasing power, demanding additional preparation and efforts.
SIILHalal is committed to continuing to promote Halal certification and expanding access to Halal products to meet the needs of the growing Muslim community in Brazil. Their efforts aim not only to increase the availability of certified products but also to ensure that practitioners of Islam in Brazil have a wide range of consumption options compatible with their beliefs and needs.
