Year-to-date through November, imports grew by 5.3% from a year ago, to USD 5.058 million.

Brazil is buying more olive oil from Tunisia. The Embassy of Tunisia in Brasília reported that sales grew by 5.3%, year-to-date through November from a year ago, to USD 5.058 million.

In 2018-19 crop, Tunisian olive oil output dropped to 140,000 tons, out of which 117,000 were exported for USD 526 million. The Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries of Tunisia forecasts a production of 350,000 tons of olive oil for 2020, with exports reaching 200,000 to 250,000 tons.Pictured above, olive crop in Tunisia.

The country expects an outstanding crop that can turn Tunisia into the world’s second largest producer, just behind Spain, after having been among the top five producers along with Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal.

“The Tunisian government has took considerable efforts and made significant investments to enhance the olive oil industry’s performance and remain among the world’s top producers,” the press release reads.

It also mentions the Embassy of Tunisia in Brazil’s efforts, such as increasing participation in trade shows and exhibitions across the country, including APAS Show and ExpoAzeite, aiming to boost exports of olive oil from Tunisia to Brazil.

Among other initiatives, ambassador Mohamed Hedi Soltani has visited Curitiba and Porto Alegre seeking for trade opportunities for Tunisia’s main good. Soltani also hosted a “Tunisian Night in his residence in Brasília to promote Tunisian products such as olive oil.
