Coffee exports from Brazil to Arab countries up 46%
The first eight months of the year saw 1.14 million bags shipped from Brazil to the Arab bloc. Overall, exports saw the largest volume for the period in the last five years.

Year-to-date through August, coffee exports from Brazil to Arab countries were up 45.9% year-on-year. The first eight months of the year saw 1.14 million 60-Kg bags shipped to the Arab bloc, the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé) reported this Tuesday (10).

The share of Brazilian coffee exports taken in by Arab countries is now 4.2%. Year-to-date through August, exports fetched USD 134 million, up 14.3%, with average price per bag increasing by 14.3% year-on-year.

Overall, the volume shipped from Brazil is the highest for the period in the last five years. Exports amounted to 27 million bags, up 30.8% from a year ago, fetching USD 3.4 billion, up 7.3% year-on-year.

“It’s worthy pointing out that the first five months of the year saw a 30% increase in imported volume year-to-date through August from a year ago. This means that Brazilian coffee has gained space abroad,” Cecafé chairman Nelson Carvalhaes was quoted in a press release as saying.

In August alone, Brazil exported 3.2 million bags of coffee, down 9.5% year-on-year. Revenue also slid, down 19.2% to USD 398.4 million. Average price in the month, at USD 124.2%, dropped by 10.8% year-on-year.

Last month, Arabica coffee accounted for 75.8% of exports, at 2.4 million bags, with Robusta making up 14.4% at 462,000 bags, and soluble coffee making up 9.8% of exports, at 314,000 bags.
